The forensic laboratory analyst performs complete laboratory analysis of forensic samples in the area of seized drugs. Complete analysis includes maintaining chain of custody, processing cases, review of data and report generation. Expert testimony will be provided as needed.  In addition to performing analysis of case samples, quality control procedures are followed and troubleshooting of instrumentation takes place when needed. The forensic laboratory analyst maintains compliance with accreditation standards and the laboratory’s quality management system. All work is to be performed in an unbiased, objective manner. The forensic laboratory analyst supports the mission of the laboratory and the Office of the District Attorney as necessary.

In addition to laboratory work, the forensic laboratory analyst will be on call and perform evidence collection, documentation, and presumptive testing at crime scenes as needed.

Position will close at 4:30pm on Friday, September 17th.  

  • Maintain chain of custody of samples
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to include balances, centrifuges, ELISA, Headspace GC/FID, GC/MS, FTIR, fuming chambers and chemical fume hoods
  • Prepare and process samples via screening and extraction techniques
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance, method development and validation for laboratory techniques and instrumentation
  • Participate in continuing education through professional conferences, training, etc.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of chemicals, reagents, glassware, and other laboratory supplies
  • Performs evidence collection and preservation at crimes scenes
  • Performs documentation at crime scenes through photography, drawings, and sketches
  • Performs presumptive testing and prepares reports for crime scenes attended
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Assist laboratory director with other duties and projects as needed

  • The forensic laboratory analyst will have a bachelors degree in chemical, biological, or physical sciences, or a related science including coursework in general and organic chemistry, and instrumental analysis with associated laboratory classes. Candidates with additional education and/or experience may be given preference.
  • The forensic laboratory analyst will participate in continuing education through professional conferences and trainings and will continually review laboratory procedures. Continuous monitoring of employee performance is monitored in part by technical and administrative review of casework, annual proficiency testing and effective supervision.
  • Must have a valid PA driver’s license
  • Must be available/on call for crime scenes and rush laboratory analyses 24/7
